Ambassador nonsense - Mr Angry - 07-13-2019 What a story this is. UK ambassador does his job, giving his appraisal of the government of his host country to his bosses in Whitehall. Somebody releases this highly confidential information to the press, resulting in publication. Subject of said report responds with childish insults and refuses to play nicely. Ambassador resigns. First, of course Sir Kim had to resign, his position had become impossible. Trump had to respond the way he did, because he is an infantile bully who does not know any better. The real villain of the piece is the lowlife scumbag who leaked the information, probably in exchange for a tasty lump of cash. Whoever it was (and they will almost certainly get caught) has made the work of the diplomatic service much more difficult, as they will be reluctant to send accurate but unflattering appraisals back home in case they end up splashed across the front pages. Or something else. Other opinions are available. RE: Ambassador nonsense - Sean-NoMoreVladimir - 07-15-2019 I'm sure the leaker sees him or herself as a hero. Bringing truth out to the masses. I've always been perplexed by people who think ideology is more important than consequences. I had a conservative in-law who railed against any and all forms of regulation. Just stifling productivity. I didn't bother talking to him about pollution and toxins. I knew he didn't believe pollution was a problem (which was frankly odd enough on it's own) when I pointed out that as an airline employee, I got to see first hand how deregulation of the American airline industry had devastating effects, as no major airline had any real post regulation business model. He thought that was perfectly fine. He honestly believed it was better to have no transportation infrastructure than to have a regulated one. I'm sure the person responsible for this thinks getting information out there is far more important than the damage done by exposing it. Then again, maybe it was just for a quick payoff.
