Well, another 9/11 anniversary...

...18 years. Bonkers it’s been so long. Seems like yesterday when I first went on the original BBC board.

And each year I recognize this world and my country less and less. On one hand I feel like an old man yelling at a cloud. On the other hand, I’m just resigned to our every growing idiocy. I used to be naively optimistic then and it’s just been slowly squashed out of me.

I have come up with a plan. Of sorts.

Once the kids are in college I'm moving back home to Southern California. I'm going to sell everything except my laptop and my guitars. I can't afford a house back home so I'm buying a boat. I can get a fairly large used boat for a tenth the cost of a house. No mortgage payment, no yard to maintain. Assuming social security is only cut in half by the time I reach retirement age, I should be able to cover docking fees and groceries until I'm too old to care. If they manage to keep it stable I should be reasonably comfortable.

I'm not going to worry about any of the rest of it. Just wait out my days in San Diego harbor. The world is a terrible place and there's nothing I can do about it. My only regret is having had children. They don't deserve what's coming.
The username Vladimir was far more amusing to me as a Dune fan.  Putin has managed to take the fun out of the name for me though
