Anyone hop on Reddit? It never appealed to me until a couple of months ago, when I would go on the one Game of Thrones subreddit to read discussions of the episodes in this last season. Now I have an account and have joined the ancient civilizations, outer space, movies, and comics subreddits. (Can't be bothered with most of the history or political subreddits...too old to yell at online strangers anymore.)

What a story this is. UK ambassador does his job, giving his appraisal of the government of his host country to his bosses in Whitehall. Somebody releases this highly confidential information to the press, resulting in publication. Subject of said report responds with childish insults and refuses to play nicely. Ambassador resigns.
First, of course Sir Kim had to resign, his position had become impossible. Trump had to respond the way he did, because he is an infantile bully who does not know any better. The real villain of the piece is the lowlife scumbag who leaked the information, probably in exchange for a tasty lump of cash. Whoever it was (and they will almost certainly get caught) has made the work of the diplomatic service much more difficult, as they will be reluctant to send accurate but unflattering appraisals back home in case they end up splashed across the front pages.
Or something else. Other opinions are available.

NGL, it was Hamilton the Musical that I got into first. (And I REALLY REALLY Got into it even going down to that London to see it.)
Then I got into the history of the American revolution, biogs of Hamilton, Jefferson, Washington, Burr (& of course, Gore Vidal's work of brilliance, the fictional Burr).
What a story! What a tale!
But the slavery thing. Sally Hemings. (And I read an amazing biography of Sally Hemings, which was a difficult thing to write given there is so little known history of the woman, so the author implied a history from the external known facts about the lives of enslaved women, based on what Sally's choices would realistically have been at every turn. It didn't hold completely, but as a way of producing biography of unknown women, it seemed a reasonable process.)
I so wanted to like Jefferson. His crazy hippie approach to federal governments, etc., but can you? Can Jefferson ever really be forgiven?
